London Based Design Agency Marque Chosen To Give Glasgow 2014 New Brand Identity
Marque, a London based design agency has been chosen by the Glasgow 2014 organizing committee to design a new brand identity for the games. Marque which has offices in London, New York and Glasgow will work on the image of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games to be held in 2014. It will design the visual language which will be used to promote the games and encourage tourists to visit Scotland during that period. The Panel which chose Marque for this prestigious assignment comprised of Paul Stickley, head of Visual Communication at Glasgow School of Art, Shirley Webb, Olympic and Commonwealth Games athlete and John Donnelly, director of marketing and sponsorship for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. The tender for designing a brand identity for Glasgow 2014 was filled by 66 agencies which were short-listed to 10 and subsequently to 6 contenders. These 6 agencies had to go through a rigorous round of briefs and presentations after which Marque was chosen unanimously by the selection Panel.
John Donnelly described Marque as "outstanding" when it came to understanding the depth of visual language and what the organizing committee was trying to achieve. He added that the organizing committee was excited about March 2010 when Marque's work will be released globally.
Managing Director of Marque, Mark Noe, was understandably thrilled at this development and said that Marque was honoured to be associated with such a high profile and exciting project. He said that the organizing committee was very passionate about creating a global iconic image for the games and this matched the values of Marque as an organization. He added that his team was excited about creating a truly memorable brand image for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games since the selection process began in June, 2009.
Head of Visual Communication at Glasgow School of Art, Paul Stickley, said that Marque's work on understanding Glasgow's identity taking care of its modernist past, youthful present and bright future has been remarkable. He added that when Marque comes out with its brand identity of Glasgow 2014, it will proudly reflect the city, the games and the people of Glasgow.
