21st October, 2009
Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), India’s main opposition party has demanded that the government should bring out a white paper on the funds and expenses involved in the preparation for next year’s Commonwealth Games. It has also asked Sports Minister Mr. M.S. Gill to ensure that the Games Organizing Committee does not get into a confrontation with the CWG Federation.
BJP leader Mr. Vijay Goel met the Sports Minister Mr. M.S. Gill and asked him for a white paper on the funds and expenses for the Commonwealth Games claiming that the Games Organizing Committee was "making profits".
Mr. Vijay Goel said that there were prevailing uncertainties in the context of the games and claimed that he was not provided a schedule of the test games even though he made a request to the Sports Minister.
Mr. Goel expressed the BJP’s concern over long pending infrastructure projects which are being built for the Commonwealth Games 2010 and also asked Mr. Gill to direct the Indian Olympic Association to concentrate on medal winning teams.
